چکیده

We consider a Monte Carlo Markov chain (MCMC) algorithm for fisheries stock assessment. The biomass of this stock at a given year could be modeled as a nonlinear function of the biomass and catch for the two previous years, of different parameters (recruitment, growth rate, natural mortality rate). Given a time series of annual catch and effort data, we would like to achieve the best fitting between the data and a class of non linear/non Gaussian state–space models.

Accounting for Spatial Population Structure in Stock Assessment: Past, Present, and Future*

Stock identification has been an important prerequisite for stock assessment throughout its history. The earliest evaluations of recruitment variability recognized that understanding the spatial scale of a fishery resource is essential for studying population dynamics. A paradigm of stock structure was based on closed migration circuits and geographic variation of phenotypic traits and formed a...

Stock assessment methods used for cephalopod

Cephalopods are of increasing importance as a fishery resource and many species are taken in directed and bycatch fisheries around the world. Owing to the short life-cycles and variable growth rates of most cephalopods, stocks may be highly volatile, both highly susceptible to recruitment overfishing and, conversely, capable of rapid recovery. Many species have protracted spawning seasons so th...

Scup : Stock Assessment and Biological Reference Points for 2008

Scup 293 Executive Summary The current biomass reference point for scup relies on the index of Spawning Stock Biomass (SSB) from the NEFSC spring trawl survey. Previous reviews of the stock assessment have indicated that while this index may be the most reliable fishery independent index of scup SSB, it is subject to a relatively high degree of inter-annual variability that reduces its utility ...

Hazard function models to estimate mortality rates affecting fish populations with application to the sea mullet (Mugil cephalus) fishery on the Queensland coast (Australia)

Survival analysis was applied to fisheries catch at age data to develop maximum likelihood estimators for stock assessment. This new method estimated natural mortality, fishing mortality and catchability from typical catch at age matrices. Monte Carlo simulations suggested estimates were unbiased and provided a better fit than the traditional multinomial approach. Application to a dataset from ...
